Twenty seven years ago Penny and I upped sticks in Ogdensburg, NY and headed into retirement. Here is a summary of how that went.
First, bought a boat rental company, five years of paradise ended by 9/11 and bankruptcy. Experienced our first hurricane (George) but this reunited us with cousin Carol I hadn’t seen since childhood. Short spell trying to sell insurance, ended when I realized I was a bad liar. Moved to Saint Augustine, had two years working with challenged adults, still think about them almost daily. Moved to Calgary to baby sit our only grand-daughter who got married this week, interrupted by the need to move to Toronto to babysit our youngest Grandson who heads to University this weekend.
Returned to Pine Island where, after renting for five years, we purchased our forever home at 3915 Coconut Dr, only to have it washed away by hurricane Ian almost exactly 10 years later. Used recovery money to buy our second forever home, (for winters only because summers are too hot) and spend the summers in the great apartment our son and daughter in law have arranged for us in Bolton.
Not much of a retirement, but it has been a lot of fun (which makes up for the pain that comes along with it.)
